CHAI WU, HARRODS KNIGHTSBRIDGE

Chai Wu is an established contemporary Chinese fine dining restaurant in Harrods, Knightsbridge. The interior design style is developed from the five elements of Chinese philosophy; wood, metal, water, earth and fire, creating a pared back, elegant and welcoming restaurant that integrates a fusion of traditional and contemporary Chinese culture.

The fifth floor project included converting previous retail space into a fully operational capsule restaurant that includes; a dining room, theatre sushi and grill kitchens, back of house areas and new customer toilets. Working alongside the Harrods team and Historic England new service routes and drainage were run through the historic fabric of the Grade II* listed building

Kirk Nolan was recently appointed to extend Chai Wu to increase the footprint of the restaurant. The number of covers has been doubled whilst retaining the intimate atmosphere of the original restaurant by creating dining alcoves that transition between restaurant and private dining spaces.

While continuing the original interior design scheme, Kirk Nolan have introduced subtle new finishes and bespoke artwork to enhance the scheme without overshadowing the timeless and minimal style of the original restaurant. The new mural artwork features cranes which are highly respected as the prince of all featured creatures and are symbolic of longevity, peace, and happiness.
